On this page we hope to give a helpful guide to booking an Irish band for a wedding, event or party. We will be focusing on Irish party bands as opposed to bands which play serious traditional Irish folk music. The type of Irish band we will be putting forward for hire are the bands who will get people up dancing and singing along to the Irish songs which have gained recognition outside folk club circles. They are bands who have embraced the pop elements of the Irish music craze and can play to a mixed audience.

What kind of Irish bands are available to hire?

As we have mentioned at LMM we are not looking to offer purist traditional Irish bands but we have hand picked and selected the best of the UKs Irish party bands available to hire. Some of these bands (Treacle for instance) also play some pop music which means that you are able to get a Irish flavour to your party but also cater to a mainstream audience who might enjoy a set of Irish music but also want to dance to party band favourites. One or two of our Irish party bands also play Ceilidh music and can offer callers who will teach your guests to dance the steps for each song. They might play Scottish traditional songs as well as Irish songs. What is a Ceilidh?

A ceilidh or ceili is a Gaelic traditional social gathering or dance. Originating in Ireland the ceilidh became common throughout Scotland. Offering live music in the days before nightclubs and discos they were an important means of young people meeting members of the opposite sex. Today the tradition continues in rural areas but the ceilidh style dance has also become a common offering at weddings and private events often mixing traditional music with pop music either played live by the band or offered in the form of a disco. Many of the dances are simple to learn for the novice and can be easily learnt as the songs progress (particularly if a caller is on hand to teach the dances.)
